A few days ago, there was a serious plagiarism in the February 2021 issue of the online magazine Science Fiction World. On the afternoon of 23rd, Science Fiction World issued an apology statement in its official Weibo to confirm this matter.
In the apology statement, "Science Fiction World" mentioned that "No Owner" was created by Li Qing, which was originally an essay work for the Yinhe Prize. Now it is verified that there is a problem of "full-text plagiarism" of Stephen King’s short story "Heavy Truck". "Science Fiction World" decided to cancel the manuscript fee of the works involved, cancel Li Qingzhi’s qualification for awards, and also reject the rest of his works.
"Science Fiction World" apologized for the omissions in the manuscript review process.
It is understood that the Galaxy Award is the highest honor award in the fantasy world of China and the only science fiction award in Chinese mainland. The winning works represent the highest level of Chinese mainland’s science fiction creation. At present, it is exclusively held by Science Fiction World, and science fiction writers such as Liu Cixin, Ye Yonglie and Wang Jinkang have all won the Galaxy Award.
Stephen King, born in Maine in 1947, is a prolific and award-winning best-selling author. He has written plays and column reviews, and also served as a film director, producer and actor. His representative works include The Shining’s The Shawshank Redemption. "Heavy Truck" is included in Stephen King’s collection of short stories "Night Watch", which vividly shows people’s nervousness when waiting in a truck parking lot in the doomsday world.
However, there is less public information about the plagiarist Li Qingzhi on the Internet.
The magazine "No Science Fiction" has previously introduced that Li Qingzhi is a fresh graduate majoring in design. "He is good at writing people and likes to read the works of Abraham and george martin."
On February 1 ST, the official micro of Science Fiction World published an article from the editorial department "Xiaoxue", and gave this evaluation to "No Owner":
….. absurd, violent, bloody, black humor, this tone has been filled with the full text, like sticky oil slowly spread to everyone’s feet. Although the story is not complicated, Li Qingzhi’s teacher’s brushwork is very good. The fear and helplessness of human beings are vividly displayed, and the picture feels vividly on the paper, which reminds people of one classic horror movie scene after another.
Querying the Chinese sci-fi database, we can also know that Li Qingzhi has published four short and medium-sized sci-fi novels, including "No Master", which spans from 2020 to the present.
Among them, "Roots and Women" is included in the book "AI Awakening" published by beijing institute of technology press in July 2020; Sagan Plan is included in the book Imperfect Contact published by beijing institute of technology press in July 2020. "The future is bleak" was published in "There is no science fiction" by the Bureau of Future Affairs in September 2020.
It is worth mentioning that "No Future" was also confirmed to have copied Stephen King’s "The Sound of the Waves in the Night".
The magazine "There is no science fiction" once said that "No Future" describes the United States under the spread of the epidemic from the perspective of China students.
According to the sci-fi blogger @ Sci-fi Lightyear, "According to the tip, the future (affairs management) bureau also has a work to be published, which has just been confirmed to have copied Stephen King’s" Killing Machine "… The industry is checking and confirming more works of Li Qingzhi."
Many sci-fi fans are deeply angry that Li Qingzhi’s "No Owner" was proved to be plagiarized:
